There are some differences in the learning system in the United States and Australia, both for Master and Doctoral degree levels. In the U.S., studies in graduate level Master can choose by course or by thesis. If you select by course, students attend all courses with a variety of duties and pass the Master without having to write a thesis.
To choose by thesis, the first year passed by following some courses with all their duties. After the end of the first year, students begin to write the thesis, in this case because only a minor thesis done in a short time (two semesters). For a career as a researcher, lecturer, or working in the R&D of an institution, it is better to follow this stage because after your studies can take paper “souvenirs” (Master’s thesis).
